How VSI Funding Was Allocated

The federal government announced 94.6 million dollars of funding to support the Voluntary Sector Initiative (VSI) over five years. The funding was allocated to the different content areas of the VSI including:

  • Relationship between the Government and the Voluntary Sector including the development of a Government/Voluntary Sector Accord and partnership: $11.5M
  • Strengthening the capacity of the voluntary sector: $35M
  • International Year of Volunteers and the development of a National Volunteerism Initiative: $10M
  • Dealing with regulatory issues: $8.6M
  • Increased involvement for the voluntary sector in policy development: $28.5M
  • Studying how the federal government funds the voluntary sector: $1M
As much as possible the work of the VSI is being carried out by organizations that are part of the voluntary sector. Once the VSI has been completed there will be final reports on the expenditures under the initiative.
